The Cotswolds Wedding of Sam and Mark, Caswell House, Oxfordshire

An absolutely fantastic part of the country to choose to get married in. Right on the edge of the Cotswolds and just a few miles from Cirencester. I had travelled down independent of the band to check out a few up and coming venues, as it looks like we will be spending a few weekends in the Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire area over the coming months, if the number of weddings booked already this season and next is anything to go by. I must just give a plug for the excellent “5 Alls” Inn in Filkins about 4 miles from Caswell House on the south west side of Brize Norton.

Incidentally you might, like me, wonder where the name comes from I asked the barman !!but here is the proper answer The five alls represent the King: “I rule All;” the second, a Parson: “I pray for All;” and third, a Lawyer: “I plead for All;” the fourth, a Soldier: “I fight for All;” and the fifth panel, a Taxpayer: “I pay for All.” Hence “The Five Alls.”

Caswell House sits in its own estate and is ideally suited to weddings and corporate functions. It’s outbuildings have been very tastefully converted to impressive looking turn of the century contemporary lofted barns featuring plenty of natural oak. The owners have installed a state of the art PA system. We were able to sit separately in the reception/ bar area and listen quite clearly to the best man deliver a very competent speech.

After diner the tables were cleared away and the room give over to the band to set up at one end ready for the evenings entertainment. Our load in point and dressing room were adjacent to the stage so very convenient. We were able to control the room lighting to adjust the very important atmosphere form the dancing to begin.
During the first dance ‘At last’ by Etta James and lively first set the venue catering staff prepared the evening buffet which was laid out and ready in time for our first break.

We must confess we did have to disappoint one of the younger guest who wanted to have a go on the drum kit!! … Sadly we can’t allow any use of band equipment during a performance however mean it might sound!!. The bands equipment is very expensive to buy and maintain and we cannot afford to chance any breakages. Playing or singing with the band is fine provided it has been prearranged with us through the bride and groom.

The end of the evening comes all to soon when you are dancing and enjoying yourself this evening was no exception when two more disappointed people came forward to negotiate an extension to the evening!! Sorry but the venue makes the rules!! but better to finish seemingly early with guests wanting more than to over stay our welcome.
