Clare and James at Moxhull Hall West Midlands

Just by way of a change, for this outing to Moxhull Hall, the band decided by majority of “Matt” to try an entirely different route via the M11 and A14 instead of the usual MI. Not reckoning on the absurd off the cuff announcement by Mr Cameron and some others to stock up our Jerry cans with fuel, as there maybe a delivery drivers strike just around the corner . The remark incidentally averted the need for a strike as the tanker drivers were too busy cashing in on the windfall and working overtime trying to keeping up with the demand for fuel!! Fortunately our local Bradfords Garage in Sharnel Street ,a sleepy corner of the South East ,was not out of Diesel !! Neither were the M6 services. Most fuel stops between the two were proudly displaying their liquid gold price around 152.9 per ltr but were empty!!

That said and having climbed down from my soap box we arrived safely ahead of schedule and raring to go. Clare and James were well into their wedding breakfast in the purpose built marquee, It’s as well to mention the marquee because it was indeed purpose built especially for us so that we can arrive a little later than usual and set up in the screened off dance area whilst guests are still dining right next door. Our duty manager for the day, Tony, is pretty much an authority on wedding planning and execution … if he says be back for 8.45pm for the cutting of the cake, our drums will be rolling and guests gathering around the, in this instance, gluten free wedding cake at exactly 8.45pm and the first dance will follow directly after!!

Clare and James first and second dances were “Heaven” by Bryan Adams and” Make You Feel My Love” by Adele great choices and quite popular at the start of this our fifth and very busy year.

Catherine our singer remarked how the attentiveness of the Page Boy towards the smaller of the bridesmaids reminded her of those “Love is” images!! They certainly had a fun time with their digital cameras, great idea to keep them gainfully occupied for so long. I can remember my one and only time as a Page Boy, the bridesmaid in my case was 15 years my senior .. well at least I still have the pictures and shoe buckles which bring back fond memories.

As our first set finished Tony again was right on cue with the bacon and sausage rolls, the pre service smell of which seems to make you forget that it was only an hour or so ago that we and the guests were tucking into our own very separate Moxhull Hall feasts. We had ordered club sandwiches from the bar menu and ate heartily in our room around a huge board room table whilst rehearsing the first dance for the next wedding in Haywards Heath West Sussex the very next day.

Second and third sets are best left for the pictures to paint the words, save the short interlude of about 6 seconds between the medley of Valerie and All the Single Ladies while the drums rolled again for Clare to toss her bouquet into the ensemble of maidens eager to become the next in white!!
